Accurately referred to as theĀ “The Jewel” of the Cape, De Hoop Nature Reserve is a World Heritage Site, with a Marine Protected Area that extends 5km out to sea, making it one of the largest marine protected areas in Africa. An excellent Whale Watching spot this protected area is a sanctuary for a variety of marine life. At De Hoop Nature Reserve you will discover an array of rare and endangered fynbos, this Cape Jewel is also a bird watchers paradise and home to more than 85 species of game….

At De Hoop Nature Reserve you will discover an array of rare and endangered fynbos, this Cape Jewel is also a bird watchers paradise and home to more than 85 species of game. A rich cultural history, which dates back to the stone ages, where hunter-gathers lived off the veld and coastal resources of the area. You can still see the “middens” of the nomadic Khoi tribes found all along the De Hoop Coast.

The H-shaped homestead of the first registered owner, Pieter Lourens Cloete, still stands and forms part of The Opstal accommodation establishment.
